Paradiesvögel / birds of paradise

On a Friday evening in August, not long after my vacation period, I got a ring from a friend, who desperately needed some reasonable photographs of some carved "birds of paradiese".

She intended to print some postcards from the motifs to give them as a birthday present to her son, who was the skillful artists of the beautiful wodden artworks.

My friend's idea was to place the little birds in front of a dark background, so we used her black blanket.
But unfortunately one of her cats made a nap on the blanket right before the shooting, so we had remove all the cat's hairs before we could use the background of our choice.

Even though we cleaned the blanket as good as possible, I had to conduct a second cleaning effort, a digital cleaning with Photoshop to get rid of all the cat's hairs.

The dark blackground shall put the main motifs to center of attention.

But my friend has a marvellous cottage garden...

...so the idea raised in me to place the birdies...

...in the natural environment of their living fellow species.

So now take your own decision which type of presentation of the birds of paradiese you like more...

Our action in the cottage garden did not remain undetected...

...the three tame domestic hens of my friend were heavily interested in our photoshooting, too... ;-)

Finally we found a consent: we've choosen four motifs with dark background and four motifs taken in the garden...

...to print a (eight-fold) set of postcards.

By the way: it was my first set of postcards I ever made out of some of my photos, although the idea & wish to do this was already a long time in me.

Sometimes you just need a telephone call as an impulse to start...;-)

  2. Thanks for your sweet comment, little bird!
The artist just took an old wodden board and carved the bodies of the birdies out of it.
    Have a great weekend!

  21. Wonderful series of wooden handicraft! I like them all! The way how they are displayed adds more charms to them. I vote for the postcards No. 9, 11, 12 and 13, but my favorite is 13. You’re such a helpful friend and nice photographer, Uwe. When you ‘re called from overseas for the appealing tasks, could you go impulsively?

I’ll stop blogging for a while. Enjoy your October.
