Roses in the Castle Garden of Rothenburg

After a great and relaxing morning at our favourite Sunday breakfast spot 'Unter den Linden' at Rothenburg ob der Tauber we went for a stroll inside the town wall of the medieval town.

Off the beaten tourist tracks there are many beautiful und unique places to linger over.

 

One of this places is the Burggarten (Castle Garden) in the east of the old town, high above the Tauber valley.

From there you have a fantastic panorama view on the southern town wall and the historic buildings behind.

One of my favourite spots in the Castle Garden is a small geometrical garden from the 17th/18th century with eight figures made from sandstone.

They are representing the four seasons and the four elements.

Currently many beautiful and sweet-smelling roses are blooming.

Beginning of fall in the Japanese Garden of Wolfsgarten palace

Schloss Wolfsgarten, Langen, Germany,

recent weekend.

Schloß Wolfsgarten is a former hunting seat of the ruling family of Hesse-Damstadt, approx. 15 km south of Frankfurt am Main.
In the twentieth century, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig extensively modernized Schloß Wolfsgarten and rearranged its park.

The 100-year-old Japanese Garden was restored in 2011and newly opened on the occasion of the "Japantag" within the Royal Garden Festival / Fürstliches Gartenfest at Schloss Wolfsgarten.

The Japanese Garden with a big water lily pond in its center accomodates various old dawn redwood and Japanese maple trees with the slender leaves. They change their colour from green to yellow into dark red during the autumn season. This process is right now in full swing.

The property and its garden is open to the public only on two weekends in May during the annual Rhododendrenblüte / Rhododendron festival and again for a weekend in September for the The Schloss Wolfsgarten Garden Festival

Behind the moon gate...

Dennenlohe mansion, Middle Franconia, Germany (not Japan!)

You do not really expect such a delightful prospect in the middle of Franconia, do you?

This extraordinary Japanese style garden - and many other theme gardens in his park - is a project of the landlord, baron Suesskind of Dennenlohe mansion. Since 1990 he has shaped this great mansion garden and there's still a lot to do for the future.

I could have spent hours with taking photos (and indeed I did) in the park, although the weather could have been a little better (= sunnier).
