Floral variations of spring

It's somehow springtime in Germany,
but most of the time we still have winter temperatures and far too little sunshine.

So many harbingers of spring, except for snowdrops and crocuses, take their time to flourish this spring season.

But step by step you can find more and different spring flowers.

A very early flowering species is Helleborus niger - the Christmas or Easter rose - with a great variety of blossom colours.

Floral Easter decorations - with feathers of the guinea fowl.

Recent Saturday we found even more harbingers of spring - any idea in which famous German (tourist) town I took the photos???

There, along the Philosophers' Way, we found some of our springtime favourites as well...

... the very first magnolia blossoms 2016 and...

...almond blossoms.

Some of them started flourishing already before Christmas 2015 because of the very mild temperatures in December.

Happy & peaceful Easter to all of you!

Night frost magnolias in spring season 2015

This year's blossoming of the magnolia trees in Southern Germany was affected by two days of night frosts short prior the first magnolia buds opened.

This is what I've hoped to find...

...and this is what I found last week.

The closer I came to the magnolia blossoms, the more I was able to see that this spring season
there was a third colour next to pink and white: brown ;-((

Especially the magnolia trees at the climatically priviledged habitats were affected, because the April night frosts occured when the very first blossoms flourished.

The laggards among the magnolia blossoms were not affected that much...

...so all in all it really depended on the location and flourishing time of the magnolia trees
whether you were able to find a tree with ininjured flowers  - or not.

But the cherry blossoms are great this season...
...but that's what I exhibit in my next post!

First magnolia blossom 2014

Okay, my first magnolia blossom I found and captured 2014 - namely today.

What's your favourite?
The photo with or without texture?

Does a passable photo need a texture?
What do you think?

...and my second blooming magnolia blossom I found.  ;-)

Enjoy your weekend!

Sea of blossoms - magnolia heyday

The blossoming of the magnolia trees.
My object of desire during my lunch break the recent week.

Within the last years I've found some of the most impressing magnolia trees at the town where I work.
Standing directly in front of one of these wonderful trees during the blooming time you solely see a sea of blossoms. It's really difficult to focus one single flush.

Seen from a differnet angle of vision you get a much better view on the location where the magnolia trees grow. Definitely it's a privileged habitat for the thermophilic and frost-sensitive magnolias in the matter of sunshine and temperature - directly on top of a vineyard close to the town centre.

With an open aperture and a little help of Photoshop I was able to separate a flowering branch with my telephoto lens. Unfortunately I did not had my macro with me...
...maybe next week! ;-)

Blossoming of the magnolia trees

From a distance this year's blossoming of the magnolia trees look really great, doesn't it?
But recent Sunday we had low pressure influence with cold rain and soft hail.
So let's come a little closer with the telephoto lens...

...still a lovely view, but already a notion of some disturbing brown stains.

It's not possible to hide anymore...
...the traces of the undercooled soft hail on the magnolia blossoms.
What a great pity!

Not even Photoshop seems to be a suitable solution... ;-))

lunch break magnolia hunting

Now they bloom again!

M A G N O L I A S!

Especially here in the climatical benefited area of the Neckar valley (southwest Germany) you find pretty a lot of magnolia trees.

In comparison to last year this springtime the blossoms are more or less without any frost damage = brown spots.

Another two weeks and all the magnolia gems are gone again.

DO NOT sit in front of your computer screen and browse through blogs... ;-))

Go outside and enjoy the magic of nature!

Now!

...but do not forget to take your camera with you.

Blossoming of the magnolia trees

This year the blossoms of the magnolia trees had to suffer because of the low temperatures during the last weeks of March. So many of them have frostbitten seams or areas. If you find a magnolia tree next to a house or another sheltered location you will have good luck and can find some blossoms without any damage. I took the pictures last week at Lauffen/Germany.
