Gerhard Nerowski - sculptor

Last Saturday we visited the "rose market" / Rosenmesse at Koenigsberg,
a small quaint town in Lower Franconia, Bavaria.

On our way to the castle hill where the market took place we came round to the atelier of the sculptor
Gerhard Nerowski.

Nerowski is known especially for his larger than life-sized artworks carved of wood
but also for other artwork like portraits and bronze casting figures.

Fortunately he's not afraid of photographers,
but of course I asked him before taking pictures from some of his impressive works.

Nerowski's range of work covers much more than portraits.
Especially his monumental (what he calls) 'comics' deeply surprised and impressed me.

Nerowski made a lot of artwork for ecclesiastical purposes, too.

Accientally we found one of his sculptures on our way back home in the park of Oberschwappach castle:

Adam and Eve  -  expulsion from Paradise

I wish you a creative work week!

  8. You're right, visiting the Rose Market would have delighted me :) Did you have your camera with you? I can't wait to see your Rose captures. For now I've enjoyed those fabulous sculptures, that man is so creative, expressive and talented. My favorite is the voluptuous sitting lady! Women don't have to be skinny to be beautiful.

    Have a wonderful Tuesday!

The sculptures are excellent, he really knows how to use the grain of the wood to good effect.
