Almond blossom season 2014 along the Palatinate Wine Route

All photos taken last Saturday, between Landau and Neustadt an der Weinstraße,
Palatinate Wine Route, Germany.

The almond (Prunus dulcis, syn. Prunus amygdalus, Amygdalus communis, Amygdalus dulcis) (or badam in Indian English, from Persian: بادام‎) is a species of tree native to the Middle East and South Asia. "Almond" is also the name of the edible and widely cultivated seed of this tree.

The Palatinate Wine Route is one of the rare regions in Germany where thousands of this thermophilic tree are cultivated amidst the Palastine vineyards.

  1. Was für eine Blütenpracht! Traumhaft! Bei uns blüht zwar auch schon einiges, aber Bäume, die schon in voller Blüte stehen, hab ich noch nicht gesehen! Wunderschön fotografiert!

  3. @ Pieni: It's more or less like in Finland, dear Pieni. Just with some additional almond trees... ;-)

@ Michelle: The nature is stunning. I just took the photos... ;-)

  5. Beautiful blooms all around Uwe, I love the white flowers, very delicate and pretty. All this landscaping looks straight out of some kind of a fairy tale book for me. Thank you so much for taking us along, all your pictures are simply excellent.

Im glad you wrote these were almonds, when I lived in Germany I thought they were cherry trees!

  14. What glorious almond trees! The blossoms looks like those of a cherry tree. But come to think of the blooming time earlier than cherry blossoms, they would play a role like our ume (Japanese apricot) blossoms to brighten up the landscape first from the pale wintry scenery. Without the architectures in the backdrop, it would be no wonder for me to think some of them were shot in Japan, for they are interestingly different but comfortingly similar.

I had one-month break from blogging since that heavy snowfall in Nara, while you were active in blogging. I think I know how you were restless in response to the unusual early arrival of spring. Have fun!

  21. Ein Hauch Frühling an einem grauen Tag (hier heute um mich herum) - nein, so weit ist es im rauhen Harz noch nicht. Aber ein Vorgeschmack tut gut, danke :-)
