Roses in the Castle Garden of Rothenburg

After a great and relaxing morning at our favourite Sunday breakfast spot 'Unter den Linden' at Rothenburg ob der Tauber we went for a stroll inside the town wall of the medieval town.

Off the beaten tourist tracks there are many beautiful und unique places to linger over.

One of this places is the Burggarten (Castle Garden) in the east of the old town, high above the Tauber valley.

From there you have a fantastic panorama view on the southern town wall and the historic buildings behind.

One of my favourite spots in the Castle Garden is a small geometrical garden from the 17th/18th century with eight figures made from sandstone.

They are representing the four seasons and the four elements.

Currently many beautiful and sweet-smelling roses are blooming.

Here are some of my best shots from yesterday...

Gerhard Nerowski - sculptor

Last Saturday we visited the "rose market" / Rosenmesse at Koenigsberg,
a small quaint town in Lower Franconia, Bavaria.

On our way to the castle hill where the market took place we came round to the atelier of the sculptor
Gerhard Nerowski.

www.gerhard-nerowski.de

Nerowski is known especially for his larger than life-sized artworks carved of wood
but also for other artwork like portraits and bronze casting figures.

Fortunately he's not afraid of photographers,
but of course I asked him before taking pictures from some of his impressive works.

Nerowski's range of work covers much more than portraits.
Especially his monumental (what he calls) 'comics' deeply surprised and impressed me.

Nerowski made a lot of artwork for ecclesiastical purposes, too.

Accientally we found one of his sculptures on our way back home in the park of Oberschwappach castle:

Adam and Eve  -  expulsion from Paradise

I wish you a creative work week!

Evening stroll...

...in a small preserve area close to the Tauber Valley.

Today it's raining cats and dogs.

But yesterday my sweetheart and I enjoyed one of these perfect summer evenings with perfect mix of temperature, wind, sunshine and great nature.

Strolling along a narrow foot path of our small natural reserve was like a short getaway from daily routine.

As a reward making a stand against gravity and getting up from our sofa we had plenty of accidental meetings with the local "population": grashoppers, butterflies and various beautiful floral gems.

Here's a pair of Marbled White (Melanargia galathea) butterflies we call 'Schachbrett' (literally translated into chess board) in German.

The umbels of this species of grass glowed in the light of the low evening sun.

And here comes a trio of purple beauties...

brown knapweed - Centaurea jacea - Wiesen-Flockenblume

I assume this might be one of the Gymnadenia orchid species, but I'm not absolutely sure...

...and even here I was not sure what kind of beauty I had I front of my lens.

Does anybody know????

Ok, even the most beautiful evening must come to an end.

I hope you enjoyed our evening stroll.

A pleasant weekend to all of you!
