I found this beauty of a crossed viper / European viper / adder last year on the Danish island of Bornholm close to a lakeside.

Wow, that's quite the snake, I hope you had a zoom lens and didn't have to get too close. Snakes frighten me, always have and probably always will. Great photo!

AntwortenLöschenOn New Year's Day, we went to Kasuga Grand Shrine and bought a holy wooden arrow with a wooden tablet where a white snake is painted. This arrow will protect our family from all bad things for a year.

To be honest with you, Uwe, seeing a real snake gives me creeps even in a photo, but I’m okay with hearing about a snake or seeing its illustrations in the children’s books or snake designs. This European viper is so big and plump! It must be venomous, I admire your courage.

AntwortenLöschenOf course I used my telephoto lens to take a photo of the European viper. So there was a reliable, respectful distance between me and the snake.
Yoko, the viper was not big and plump at all, but rather slimly built and elegantly. And though it's mildly venomously, it's not dangerously at all (if you don't attack it).
When I came closer with my camera, it disappeared in the bushes next to it within a second.

AntwortenLöschenThere's nothing to hate about snakes, Mila. These animals just have to live with prejudice like many others - including many groups of people.
AntwortenLöschenThey have no strong lobby (cause they are not "cute"), and many people don't know them very well.
Learning from each other is a very good way to eliminate predudice.
