Germany's romantic castles - is this what you like?
On the last day of October we had great sunshine and pleasurable temperatures...
...and we visited Schloss Bürgeln / Buergeln Palace in the very southwest of Germany, near the small town of Schlingen, approx. 30 km north of the Swiss city of Basel.
Buergeln Palace is known for its gorgeous and unique watches - inside the palace as well as above the main entrance.
The mansion, built 1762, was fully refurbished and renovated by Richard Sichler, a German entrepreneur and patron of arts after 1920.
Nowadays it's owned by an association called "Bürgeln-Bund" - this association provides for the castles maintenance. Entrance fees and charges for celebrations like wedding parties or baptism help to keep the mansion and its garden in a very presentable condition.
On days without haze you can even see some mountaintops of the Swiss Alps - Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau - from the castle garden.
Inside the mansion we felt as we have been taken back to the 18th century.
Well-arranged china was presented on the antique tables...
...even a number of old and perfectly refurbished tiled stoves embellished the main living areas.
