The "Schanzenviertel" or short: "Schanze" [engl.: entrenchment] is a Hamburg district traditionally embracing a multicultural, alternative lifestyle.

Welcome...

The heart of Schanzenviertel are the streets and places called

Schulterblatt, Schanzenstraße, Susannenstraße, Bartelsstraße, Sternschanze station and Sternschanzen park

These are the locations I found the majority of the streetart objects and murals.

Rote Flora

The Rote Flora is a former theatre in the Sternschanze neighbourhood in Hamburg. It has been squatted since November 1989 in response to a decision to turn it into a musical theatre.

that was fixed on the house front in 2004 to demonstrate against rent increase and a change of living conditions.

Did you see the Black-Red-Gold colours (we have on our federal flag), accidentally created by the black light bulb holder, the goldish yellow bulb and the red light? That was certainly NOT the intention of the street artist to create such a context... ;-)

Name of a fish & chips stall at Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin.

No idea how many great street art motifs already disappeared for ever when a building is fully renovated.

So I'm really curious how many of my motifs I'm going to find again the next time I will visit Berlin.

top and bottom: two of my favourite motifs I found:

John Lennon in interaction with the two guys busily engaged in writing text messages with their mobiles

and

never-to-be-forgotten Rick (Humphrey Bogart) and Ilsa (Ingrid Bergmann) in

Michael Curtiz romantic drama film Casablanca.

You find Little Lucy in nearly all variations (the one I took is one of the most harmless motifs) everywhere on Berlin's walls...

Barcelona's roller shutter graffiti

Most of us know Barcelona from its famous sights: La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona Cathedral, Torre Agbar, Las Ramblas, Park Güell, the hill Montjüic, ...

...but are you aware of the thousands of notable graffiti on the hundreds of thousands of Barcelona's roller shutters???

As a Barcelona shopkeeper you just have one alternative: Either you paint the roller shutter of your store yourself or some graffiti sprayer will do the job for you. But in this case you have no choice regarding the motif... ;-)

If you don't close your eyes in front of the small things of life when strolling through the streets of Barcelona or of your own home town, you find pretty a lot to discover at every turn!
