At eye level with crocuses

Long time no see, long time no hear, dear blog friends!

Today I want to report back to you with some harbingers of spring which have been really flourishing for more than one month already here in the south of Germany.

These crocusses I took last Saturday in the Botanical Garden of the Wuerzburg University where you can find more than just one species of crocuses and other early flowering plants.

Next to these purple beauties I found a spot with some goldish yellow crocuses as well.

But honestly I must say the purple species are my favourites.

In the cottage garden...

Today afternoon: the cottage garden of the botanical insitute of the University of Wuerzburg.

 

Some flowers in (mainly) yellow and pink, take a peep and enjoy!

Cosmos flowers of different species

 American species [Coreopsis pubescens] of the tickseed / Mädchenauge.

Rudbeckia fulgida / Gewöhnlicher Sonnenhut / orange coneflower

Jerusalem artichoke [Helianthus tuberosus], also called sunroot, sunchoke, earth apple or topinambour

Echinacea purpurea / Purpur-Sonnenhut / purple coneflower

Weekend jungle

Like every year at this season I'm totally fed up with German wintertime and its various collection of grey shades in nature.

It's still a bit too early for the early flowering plants and trees - except some lonely snowdrops every now and then.

I've been looking for something more colourful to light up my heart and soul.

So my way took me to the greenhouse of the botanic garden of Würzburg university.

No idea at all what kind of plant with the fragile blossom / inflorescence I captured here.

I just remember I took the photo in the greenhouse area for the temperate rainforest plants.

Bletilla striata orchid - distributed through China, Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam - in my humble opinion much more beautiful than the Phalaenopsis orchid schlock you can buy at a DIY market or garden center.
