Automobile Briar Rose

Things always seem to happen when you least expect them.

So it happened this sunny Sunday afternoon, when we just wanted to be sun-seekers on our walk through Schwaebisch Hall after a visit of the Alex Katz exhibition at the Kunsthalle Würth.

In one of the lanes of the old town we found it accidentally: Das automobilistische Dornröschen - the automobile Briar Rose!

It took a short while to find out that it was an old FIAT 124 Spider we discovered in a rundown courtyard under a hugh blackberry bush.

And far and wide there was neither a noble prince nor a competent car mechanic who could rescue our Briar Rose out of her perpetual sleep.

By the look of things there seems to be no rescue for this former automobile beauty any more. 

The only "act of deference" I could do for the Fiat 124 was to take these remembrance photos.

First anticipation of springtime

We enjoyed our sunny Saturday with a cup of coffee & chocolate at our favourite Italian espresso bar at Bäd Mergentheim opposite the castle entrance.

Sunday we visited the Georg Baselitz exhibition at "Kunsthalle Würth" and thereafter we took a stroll along the river Kocher and of course the marvellous "skyline" of the old town of Schwäbisch Hall.

What a great Sunday! Bright ("severe") sunshine, blue sky and the carnival-free historic town of Schwäbisch Hall.
The town is located in the valley of the river Kocher in the north-eastern part of Baden-Württemberg. It used to be a rich town because of the salt that was destilled by the Celts as early as the 5th century BC. Even today it's still a rich town, but it's not longer the salt. It's mainly the influence of the WÜRTH Group and the housing credit company "Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall AG" nowadays.

Especially WÜRTH is pumping a lot of money to preserve the historic structure and to promote art projects. Prof. Reinhold Würth opened his own private museum of art, known as KUNSTHALLE WÜRTH in 2001. The building is a perfect symbiosis between modern architecture and integration into the historic environment of Schwäbisch Hall.

Currently there's an impressive exhibition of the Austrian sculptor, painter and artist Alfred Hrdlicka (yes, NO typing error!) until end of June 2008. The entrance is free, but unfortunately it's not allowed to take photos. So the only sculptur I shot a photo of was the large, "walkable" concrete body lying on the piazza / court in front of the museum.
